After the great successes of the V4Rs with the UAE Team Emirates-XRG and the UAE Team ADQ, Colnago was not satisfied. The feedback from the athletes and continuous engineering innovations gave rise to an even more ambitious project: to create an all-round racing bike capable of improving every aspect of the previous model.
The result is the lightest Colnago ever made: only 685 grams for the frame in size 485, with a weight saving of 12.5% compared to the V4Rs, without compromises in terms of stiffness, aerodynamics, or control.
Colnago has inherited the aerodynamic know-how from the research conducted for the Y1Rs, using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation to study and refine the shape of the tubes. The selected profiles were then produced with 3D printing, tested in real configurations, and validated in the wind tunnel.
Result? A bike that at 50 km/h requires 9 watts less than the V4Rs. The frontal area has been reduced by 13%, thanks to a thinner head tube, new fork blades, and an optimized profile of the seat tube and seatpost. All while maintaining an elegant and racing silhouette.
The geometric base of the V5Rs is directly inspired by the V4Rs, already widely validated by professionals. However, some modifications make it more aggressive and performant in changes of direction and power transmission:
